Els Staal (1959) was born in the Netherlands and studied industrial design at the Arnhem Art Academy. Her work soon won grants from the Netherlands Ministry of Culture, with her furniture designs exhibited at the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum and her contemporary jewelry at various galleries, including Galerie RA and Marzee. In 1991 she received a Masters Degree in interior architecture from the Pratt Institute in New York. She worked in New York as an interior architect before moving to Paris in 1992, where she continued to design and supervise various interior architecture and exhibition design projects.

Els Staal currently works as an independent artist in Amsterdam and Paris. Her 'Egg Machine' and 'Egging' installations, sculptures and ‘Body Object' projects introduce a surprising personal world. She uses flexible materials, including rubber, pushing the lightness of paper and pulling knitted, fragile fabrics to their limits. As an artist-designer linked to several countries, her projects have a 'nomadic' quality. 'I have to be able to fold my work into a light package, carry it with me on my back, and leave'. Several exhibitions of new work are being prepared for 2007 and 2008.
